Ooty (UDHAGAMANDALAM) is a town in Tamil Nadu, India.  Ooty is situated in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.  Ooty known to be the Queen of Hill Station also sometimes called the Blue Mountains is one of the most beautiful hill station to visit in India. Hills with rich vegetation, panoramic sight, and wide tea gardens justify why Ooty is named as “Queen of Hills”. Dense forest, wide stretched grassland and lusty hills there is no doubt that anyone will be mesmerized by the beauty of the place. Enjoy the joyful toy train rides through dark tunnels, dense forest, and untouched riches of Nilgiri hills. Apart from coffee and tea plantations, trees like conifers, pine and wattle dot the hillside of Ooty and its environs. While visiting you will also come across many eucalyptus trenches. The fresh smell of eucalyptus trees in a trendy and clement breeze will make you psychedelic for sure. The funnel-shaped blossoms covering the hills in floral profusion and the lavender-blue flowers spread over the mountains will pack you with memories for a lifetime.

Ooty Lake & Boat Club: Ooty Lake covers 65 acres of land. Ooty Lake is an artificial lake constructed in 1824 by Mr. John Sullivan, as an irrigation tank.The lake was formed by damming the mountain streams flowing down Ooty valley.This place is one of the major tourist attraction spots in Ooty.  Surrounded by groves of eucalyptus trees and with a railway line running along the bank of the lake.
There is a boat house adjoining the lake made by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). Rowing Boats are available to hire here. Boating is the prime attraction of tourist visiting this place. There are many other fun activities that children love doing when they visit here, such as Pony Rides and mini train rides. You can also go horse riding around the bank.
Pykara Falls: Pykara is a river located 19kms from Ooty. Pykra River falls over a series of waterfalls, the last two of them are 55meters and 61meters are known as Pykara falls. The River has a dam and a power plant. The place is calm, peaceful, untroubled and beautiful. The sparkling atmosphere and enchanting surroundings attracts tourist to this place. The falls which is about 6kms from the bridge main road. There is boat house where you can hire boat for boating. There is a rest house in forest and a boat house with restaurant. Pykara boasts well-protected, fenced sholas, Toda settlements, large grassy meadows and good wildlife habitat.
Nilgiri Mountain Railway:Nilgiri Mountain railway is situated at a height of 1000m.It was built by the British in 1908. Operated by the Southern Railway is the only Rack Railway in India. It covers a distance of 46km in 5hours. It is the steepest rail track in Asia.
The journey from Mettupalayam to Ooty is full of scenic beauty all around the way. Starting of the journey is from Mettupalayam, a small place on the bank of Bhavani River. The train passes through plain areas for the first 5 miles or so. Thereafter, in the next 12 miles the line rises to an impressive 4363 feet, and passes through nine tunnels. The tourists are treated to outstanding views of the eastern slopes of forested Nilgiri. From here tourist can view the most beautiful scene on their left side. The train passes amidst tranquil and serene views of Coonoor, Wellington, Lovedale to finally reach Ootacamund. It covers a total distance of 116 km and crosses 250 bridges and 16 tunnels.
Ooty Rose Garden: The rose garden Ooty is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram in Ooty at an altitude of 2200m. The garden is maintained by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department. The tropical mountain climate, makes it ideal to grow roses of different types, temperature variation is not much and the rainfall here is uniform which results in long flowering seasons. The garden was developed in 1995. Initially when the garden was developed it had 1,919 varieties of roses with 17,256 rose plants were planted, now it has more than 20,000 varieties of roses of 2,800 cultivarsmaking it India’s one of the collection of roses.
There are many varieties of roses collected from all over the world. The collection of roses includes Miniature Roses, Ramblers, Hybrid Tea Roses, Yakimour, Polyanthas, Papagena, Floribunda and roses of unusual colours such as green and black.
The garden has laid out rose tunnels, pergolas and bowers with rose creepers. There is also an observation tunnel named NilaMaadam, from where tourist can view the entire rose garden. In between the roses there is a beautiful statue of an angel.
The Ooty Rose Garden received garden of Excellence award in May 2006 from World Federation of Rose Societies, for being the best Rose Garden in South Asia.
Thread Garden: Ooty has many surprises and many beautiful places to see. One of them is Thread Garden. How will feel to go in a place where flowers are not in plants grown from soil, but the whole garden is full of flowers made up thread. The artificial plant kingdom was a unique concept by Mr. Antony Joseph, who hails from Thrissur in Kerala. This concept was the first of its kind in the whole world. This amazing plant kingdom has models of plants and flowers from various parts of the world, making it a colourful treat to the eyes. All these are made using a unique hand-wound embriodery that was invented by Antony. Antony, and his 50 trained employees, took around 12 years to complete the thread garden that we see today.
Tourists from all over the world comes to visit this place, as the thread garden has immense recognization and made many records in the world. You can also buy some alike looking flower which are sold near the entrance gate of the garden.
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Park:Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary is a tiger reserve. It is located in Ooty and shares a boarder with Karnataka and Kerala. The total area of the park is 321 square km. the highest peak of the Park is 1266 m above the sea level. Not only tiger but this park is a home to many endangered animals such as, Bengal tiger, long billed vulture, white-rumped vulture, Indian leopard, Indian elephant and others. 13% of all mammals found in India are present in this park. The northern part of the park that comes under the reign of Karnataka is called as Bandipur National Park. Bandipur national park along with Mudumalai national park, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Nagarhole National Park has the highest tiger population in the country.
There are different areas of the park such as, Masinagudi here many resorts are found and the place is full of tea and coffee plantations. This 7km away from the core area of the park.  Next isKarugudi where Indian Leopards are majorly found along with other carnivores there is a swamp area in this region which is famous for high population of bison and elephants. This is the most scenic area in the whole park. Thepakadu is the entrance of the park, jeep can be hired here for safari you can also go to safari on elephant back. Mudumalai is the core park area where mammals and many birds can be spotted. This is the place where safari is mainly focused. Western Part of Mudumalai is filled with scrubs and dry deciduous forest. This allows a lot of grass varieties and shrubs to thrive. Flowering trees, coral trees, bamboo and elephant grass are common in this area. Spotting elephants, gaur and tiger are easier in this region. Jamun and wild figs are very common.
